The job goes to the first useful answer
Home services are the classic speed-to-lead business. A homeowner with water on the floor, no heat or a storm-damaged roof does not wait for the best company; they contact several and hire the first one that answers clearly and offers a time. Your website chat is often the first contact — especially after hours, when nobody is at the office.
The catch is that the people who answer the chat are also on job sites and in trucks. A chat that waits twenty minutes during a busy morning is not a staffing failure; it is a lead you probably lost without knowing it.
What our AI asks a home services company
The scenario cards for home services follow the inquiries that convert:
- An urgent repair: a leak, no hot water, a furnace or AC that stopped working — can someone come today or tomorrow?
- A quote request: replacing a water heater or a section of roof, and a rough price range.
- Service area and availability: do you cover this neighborhood, and what are the earliest dates?
- Trust questions: licensing, insurance, warranty on the work.
The AI says it is an AI check — AI check by Straight Answer in the name field — and plays an illustrative homeowner. It never books a real truck roll and never gives a real address.
What the report looks at
- Time to first reply and time to a human reply, at the hour you chose — including evenings and weekends if your widget is on then.
- Urgency handling: does the reply recognize an emergency and offer the fastest option?
- Price and availability answers: a range, a window, a clear “we can be there Thursday”.
- The next step: a booked visit or an estimate appointment with a time.
- Follow-up: if you send an e-mail after the chat, it arrives at our per-check address and appears in the report.
Every score has its quote. A low score is a list of fixes, ordered by how many jobs they are likely to save.
Common fixes in home services chats
Show your service area and emergency hours in the widget. Give the bot real answers for the top questions — typical price ranges, the earliest available window — instead of only asking for contact details. Route urgent keywords to whoever is on duty. End every chat with a time, not a promise to get back to them.
