Privacy policy

1. Who is responsible

2. What we collect and why

Account data

• Your email address — to sign you in, run your subscription, send receipts, renewal reminders and replies to your requests.
• Your plan, subscription status and payment history — to provide the service you bought.

Consent log

• The version and hash of each document you agreed to, the date and time, your IP address and browser user agent — so we can show what you agreed to and when. Kept for 5 years.

Payment data

• Card details are handled by our payment processor, Stripe. We never receive or store your card number; we keep only Stripe's customer and payment identifiers and payment statuses.

Check data

• A check is a disclosed conversation between our AI agent (AI check by Straight Answer) and the chat on a business's website. We keep the transcript and reply times.
• Staff names in transcripts are redacted in reports by default.
• The raw transcript is kept for 30 days (the dispute window); after that only the redacted version is kept.
• Reports of free checks that the business has not claimed are kept for 90 days, then deleted; only anonymized aggregate figures remain.
• Reports and transcripts of paying customers are kept for the contract term plus 12 months, or until you delete them.

Suppression list

• A domain and a date, when a business asks us not to check its website again. Kept indefinitely so the request is honored.

Cookies

• By default we use only necessary cookies. Analytics (Google Analytics 4) loads only after you opt in. See our Cookie Policy.

3. Reports about businesses that are not customers

• A free-check report is private: reachable only through a link with an unguessable token, marked noindex, never listed or searchable on our site, and it expires after 30 days.
• A business can opt out of checks for free at /opt-out and ask us to remove a report at /takedown. Removal and opt-out are never tied to payment.

4. Who we share data with

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the service — payment processing, email delivery and hosting — under contracts that limit their use to that purpose. We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

5. How long we keep data

• Account data: while you use the service and as long as needed afterwards for legal, tax and dispute purposes.
• Consent log and payment records: 5 years.
• Check data: the periods in section 2.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold, to get a copy, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of any sale or sharing (we do neither). We will not discriminate against you for using these rights. Send requests to legal@straightans.com; we reply within 10 business days and may need to verify your identity.

7. Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls, access logging and separate storage of access credentials. No system is perfectly secure; we will notify you of a breach where the law requires.

8. Children

The service is for businesses and is not directed to children under 16.

9. Changes

A new version of this policy is published here with a new version number. We email material changes to account holders in advance.
